History of World Women's Day
In the former patriarchal culture, women were denied the right to vote all over the world. The National American Women's Suffrage Association was established in 1890 to promote women's suffrage in the United States. In order for women to have the right to vote, black as well as expatriate women workers decided to support the demand for universal suffrage made by the revolutionary Marxists of the time.
The International Socialist Women's Council convened in 1907 at Stuttgart. In it, communist activist Clara Zetkin declared that "It is the duty of socialist women to fight for the right to universal suffrage." In New York on March 8, 1908, thousands of women workers in the textile industry rallied in the Rutgers check.
Clara Zetkin was influenced by this and passed a resolution at the Second International Socialist Women's Conference in Copenhagen in 1910 to commemorate the great agitation on March 8, 1908, marking March 8 as "World Women's Day" Done.
UNO declared 1975 as the International Year of Women and the United Nations decided to celebrate March 8 as International Women's Day. India celebrated the first International Women's Day on March 8, 1943.
